Seahawks Kickoff Meetings
We had two very productive meetings this week. One with the Students to solicit interest and a second with the Parents to share information and solicit support. I'm happy to say we seem to have a group of (14) enthusiastic sailors who have expressed interest and about as many parents who showed up to learn more and to ask what they can do to help. This is a great start!
The following are team action items.
1. DRY SUIT / LIFE PRESERVER - Sturgis Boat Works is right off route 6 - exit 7, Willow Street. This link (http://76.12.102.176/Contact.asp) will bring you to their website for directions and you can scout around their selection of dry suits. On the second page of the schedule there are a number of other sources of equipment. I think you'll be hard pressed to get better prices or service than at Sturgis Boat Works. They are open on Saturdays 9-12 an I will be there tomorrow morning to look for suits for my boys. Sturgis has offered us a 20% discount from the list prices for team purchases. Please don't let the dry suits or equipment keep the kids from sailing. Coach Jansen and I will do what we can to help pull together equipment. Remember the life preserver needs to be coast guard approved.
2. BOATs - Next week Coach Jansen I will be trailering our 6 boats from Tabor to the Wianno Yacht Club. Wianno has allowed us to store the boats pending the March 7th Board Meeting. Pending Wianno's Board Club approval we may be rigging and setting up our boats that same weekend at the club. (Let's keep our fingers crossed). The rigging of the boats is also a learning experience and we'd like to have the sailors present to help setup their boats and learn. Coach Jansen will solicit helpers when it is time.
3. WEBSITE - If we have anyone in our group who is web savvy I'd like to speak to them about building a Club Website. It would be a great place to share information, schedules, photos, fund raising, etc... and to build interest in the team. Please contact me if you have the time and skills to help us out.
Parents, please feel free to send me a note to share your thoughts and give me an idea of what you could do to help. I was happy to see we had a group of experienced sailing team parents so I feel confident that we have the skills to make this team succeed. A preliminary list of items include;
1. Regatta duties
2. Transportation, Practices and Events
3. Help with fund raising to defray the costs of running the club and the equipment
4. Board Seats to help direct and guide the club
Let's do what we can to help Coach Jansen develop a successful program.
